As previously reported, Tommy Kollman was shot and killed by by a deputy in Fort Myers Beach, Florida this past weekend.
According to NBC2, the 48-year-old musician, who was described by a longtime friend as "a gentle giant," was killed after his vehicle was pulled over by a deputy around 3:30 Saturday morning (December 15).
The sheriff's office says Kollman was armed, but has not offered any more information about the incident.
According to FortMyersBeachTalk.com, Kollman was arrrested on misdemeanor charges of "loitering (prowling)" and "drug-equipment possession (and/or use)" on November 28, the day before his 48th birthday. He was reportedly let go from his job at Mermaid Lounge the evening of his death.
Tommy's friend Ron Little told NBC2 that he wanted to know why Kollman was pulled over in the first place.
"He was a musician he worked late hours. His friends stayed up late. He was heading in the direction of home on McGregor. Does that make him suspicious?" asked Little.
Patrick McGuire, a former bandmate of Kollman's from the local group CINDER, called the death of a "loving, giving, kind person" a tragedy.
"Everyone who knew Tommy knows that what happened is completely out of character. It just doesn't fit with the kind of person that he was," he told FortMyersBeachTalk.com. 'That is what makes this so devastating for all of us. Tommy was not a person to make trouble. He was one of the kindest people I ever knew. I can't count how many times he lifted me up when I needed it. He never asked for help; he always gave help and sometimes to a fault. I wished he reached out if he was having problems. But that wasn't in his nature. He had to be the strongest one."
EDWIN DARE released three albums in the 1990s and had moderate success in U.S. and Japan from 1992 to 1995. Jeff Kollman dismantled the group in 1995 and relocated to Arizona for two years before moving permanently to Los Angeles.
